Internet marketers know that they stand a greater opportunity for financial freedom if they have multiple sources of profits coming in. It is why a great deal of online marketers are involved in many projects at the very same time. Make an effort to come across some ways to save your time even though you continue to put your domain names available. To turn into a power seller, it is greatest to uncover a power seller after which model your business right after theirs. Emulate what they’ve got done correctly and discover from the errors they’ve made (take care not to repeat them). Eventually you will discover a method that works well for you. If you happen to be new to this money creating method there are some great domain flipping tutorials in existence to help you. Develop a website for your domain sales business. Generating the sale commonly entails more than a number of forum posts and e-mails. At times it needs a little more effort. You can find many means you’ll be able to raise its benefit. You must make it by known by so many persons, the more targeted visitors your domain name has the more critical it is going to turn out to be. For making excellent money from domain flipping, it need to be short and keyword associated, that may be a name that may be relevant, also it must be brief and memorable, so that persons will need to acquire it since their visitors can often come back to it easily, if it really is brief and memorable it can not be forgotten.

To generate money from flipping domains, first you need to get registrar account. I extremely recommend Go Daddy because they’re easy, inexpensive, and reliable. Right after obtaining your domain name you must now drive targeted visitors to it, you are able to invest in a one for eight dollars and then drive visitors to it, then the next day you are able to list it for sale, most times in the event you have a very good domain, you is going to be capable to sell if for a minimum of $100 immediately after 24 hours of listing it.
Some thing else you might be interested in is Domain parking. This really is basically a process of monetizing your domain name with advertisements, you will find so many parking sites, some of them can only accept you if you possess a specific quantity of names, but the very best would be to leverage Afternic. All you may need do is invest in a very good domain name that is certainly associated towards niche you happen to be targeting after which re-direct it to the parking company name server. after this you are able to now add your advertisements to your domain name. Some parking company are better that others because it is possible to use them to park your domain name and it’ll look like a website.

After purchasing these names, you would like to flip or parking them, you’ll should raise the value so it can sell well. You can create blogs and incorporate your domain names within your content, by referring your visitors to them for more information. Also you will likely be requested to supply some keywords when parking them or use the default keywords, do a research on higher paying keywords and use them. In case you really wish to make very good money this business you need to have more than 20 parked domain names. To get more visits it is possible to use email marketing, auto responders and search engine submissions.

Altough there is no exact formula to appraise a domain, there are a group of things to consider before putting a value to a domain. A majority of people will base their immediate appraisal on TLD extension, word length and keyword popularity but won?t really consider backlinks, brandability or emerging trends part of the equation. There are a few factors that a person must be aware of before they can feel they have thoroughly assessed the domain and attach a valid appraisal amount. The first thing a person can do to is recognize that there are many subtle components that need to be assembled and viewed as a whole to get a comprehensive perspective on the domain. It seems every domainer has their own method used to appraise a domain so I?ve listed a few factors that I feel are necessary in being considered before a domain can be appraised.

____________________

TLD Extension

TLD or Top-Level Domain is the ending extension attached to a domain such as . com, . net or . org. The . com extension is considered the most sought after even though there are other TLD?s that are gaining huge popularity and acceptance. CC?s or Country Codes are also seeing their fair share of registrations.

Name Length

Now that all the 2, 3 and 4 letter . com?s have been registered, the letter count on a domain is fast becoming a huge factor in a domain?s worth. The desire for a short domain is at an all time high and values are steadily climbing due to the limited supply of shorter length domains. Seems shorter names are easier to remember and with that a value increase.

Characters, Numbers and Hyphens

Hyphens integrated between letters are often viewed as separators between keywords. Although there is much dispute whether or not the hyphens negatively impact a domain?s search engine optimization, there is considerable preference that a domain not include anything extra in it?s name. Number digits are beginning to see their popularity rise and can be included with relevant keywords or letters to make a great domain.

Keyword Popularity

Marketable search terms and keyword popularity are extremely relevant in appraising a domain name. The frequency of a given search term helps to indicate the brandability or popularity of the keyword. Generic word domains, such as flowers. com or poker. com are the strongest in their keyword popularity genre.

Traffic and Revenue

Traffic or visitors to a particular domain is one of the most important factors to consider when appraising a domain. More traffic usually means more revenue due to pay-per-click income and possible advertising opportunities, therefore increasing the value of the domain.

Brandability and Trends

Any domain that is easily memorable, short and non-descript is considered brandable and therefore increases it?s value. It would be easier for a person to remember TVrepair. com instead of the longer fix-my-broken-television. com . Not only is the first choice shorter and has better word flow but also there is less of a chance of someone incorrectly typing in the URL. Also keep tuned in to current trends that may seem to increase an otherwise meaningless domain into a treasure. An example is when Apple Computers began to incorporate the letter i into their products descriptions, such as iPhone, iPod and iLife.

Automated Domain Appraisals

This is a tricky one. Although I feel automated domain appraisal systems such as Estibot are helpful in assisting to appraise a domain, I don?t feel they should be the ?end all? decision used to obtain a domain?s value. If used more as a reference tool, they can be one of the greatest resources that help determine an appraisal value. Any script/applications can have some bugs, especially ones with complex algorithms as Estibot. Make automated domain appraisals one of the tools to find an appraisal, not the only tool.

Future Potential Interest and Overall Appeal

As time goes by, new words, trends and fads explode onto the scene, and with each new word or trend created, a domain is born. Stay up with current events and become a regular visitor to news aggregate sites, such as Digg and domain industry specific DNHour to stay on the cusp of emerging potential interests.

Backlinks

I like to keep my eye on the number and quality of backlinks to evaluate an domain appraisal. While tons of irrelevant backlinks might negatively effect a domain?s search engine optimization, it can still be a positive thing for a domain names? value. With more and more domains being ?parked?, the links tend to lean towards relevant backlinks and therefore less likely to be bogged down in the SEO nightmare of page rank. And, it?s hard to argue that backlinks don?t increase traffic.

Relevance, Region Specific and other Fuzzy Logic

As said earlier, there is no exact formula to appraise a domain name, and therefore the not-so-exact elements must come into play. An example would be that veteran domainers tend to skew their entire method of appraising when it comes to country specific or region specific domain names. Different factors are incorporated to determine non-English domain word values and domainers across the globe are becoming better in detecting future potential interests in foreign markets. Another example is the continuously growing popularity of ?long-string domaining?, or stringing multiple words or keywords to achieve a brandable and memorable domain name. TacoBell has ThinkOutsideTheBun. com and Amazon has the domain BuyABook. com. By definition, these would not be very valuable but that?s when the fuzzy logic creeps in. A domain?s value can be perceived in multiple ways.

How, Where, When?

This commodity will explain the basal accomplish to researching an expiring area name, and the abounding altered options (or should I say all-important accomplish to assure success).

The accustomed area cessation action for .com .net

(domain abatement cycle):

Phase 1. Active Domain

A area is registered for a time aeon of 1-10 years. During this time the area buyer has complete use of the domain.

Phase 2. On-Hold

At the end of this time period, the apprentice is appropriate to pay a face-lifting fee to the agent to abide to use the domain. If the area is renewed go aback to appearance 1, if not the area is placed in an onhold (on-hold) cachet for 1-45 canicule (each agent has determines how continued this aeon lasts). During this time, the apprentice (owner of the domain) can still pay the face-lifting fee and abide to use his/her area name. During this onhold aeon the area resolves to the registrars website or does not boldness at all.

Phase 3. Redemption

After the 1-45 day onhold period, the area again enters accretion cachet (RGP – Accretion adroitness period), which lasts for 30 days. During this time the apprentice of the area name has the advantage to pay a accretion amends fee (redemption fees about amount amid $100-200 depending on the registrar) and renew the domain. If the area buyer renews the area go aback to appearance 1. During this accretion aeon the area resolves to the registrars website or does not boldness at all.

Phase 4. Awaiting Delete

After the area completes the 30 day accretion aeon after actuality renewed, it again enters a 5 day awaiting annul period. During this the time the apprentice no best has the adeptness to renew the area name. The area will be appear to the accepted accessible and be accessible for allotment on the sixth day at 2pm eastern.

(This bead action does not authority accurate for absolute backorders)

Domains are an anytime alteration industry. Over the aftermost 2 years, abounding things accept afflicted including abounding variations of the area abatement process. The aloft mentioned action is the norm, but every day added and added registrars are starting to accept absolute drops.

An archetype of an absolute drop: A area is registered with Arrangement Solutions. The apprentice fails to renew the area aural 60 canicule of the cessation date. The area is again auctioned off at snapnames.com (a domain

auction site).

Each agent has their own time anatomy for absolute drops. Current registrars that are accommodating in absolute drops are: arrangement solutions, godaddy, agrarian west domains, dejected razor, aggregate register, dotster, and enom. Domains registered at arrangement solutions or aggregate annals charge be backordered at snapnames. Domains registered at godaddy, agrarian west domains, or dejected razor charge be backordered at godaddy or a agrarian west reseller such as domainut.com. Domains registered at

dotster charge be backordered at namewinner Domains registered at enom charge be backordered at club bead (if at atomic on backorder is placed at the aloft casework the area will break with the aboriginal registrar, if no backorder is placed, the area will chase the accustomed bead process) A backorder is the action of signing up at a bead communicable account and authoritative a appeal to be the abutting buyer of a domain. The prices at anniversary bead bolt account vary. Pool.com – Backorders alpha at $60. Basin uses a pay for achievement business model. If basin does not bolt the area back it expires again you are not charged. If you are the alone being that backordered a area and basin catches it, you are awarded the area for $60. If the asleep area was backordered by added than one person, the area is again up for clandestine auction. Bodies that backordered the area above-mentioned to Basin communicable it are alone accustomed to bid in the auction. The bargain lasts for 3 days. SnapNames.com – Backorders alpha at $60. Snapnames uses a pay for achievement business model. If Snapnames does not bolt the area back it expires again you are not charged. If you are the alone being that backordered a area and snapnames catches it, you are awarded the area for $60. If the asleep area was backordered by added than one person, the area is again up for clandestine auction. Bodies that backordered the area above-mentioned to snapnames communicable it are alone accustomed to bid in the auction. The bargain lasts for 3 days. Enom Club Bead – Backorder alpha amount is optional$10 or $30. Enom uses a pay for achievement business model. If enom does not bolt the area back it expires again you are not charged. If you are the alone being that backordered a area for $10 the area again goes to accessible auction, but if you backordered it for $30 or added and enom catches it, you are awarded the domain. If the asleep area was backordered for $30 or added by added than one person, the area is again up for clandestine auction. The bargain lasts for 3 days. Namewinner.com – Backorders alpha at $30. Namewinner uses a pay for achievement business model. If namewinner does not bolt the area back it expires again you are not charged. If you are the alone being that backordered a area and namewinner catches it, you are awarded the area for $30. If the asleep area was backordered by added than one person, the area is again up for clandestine auction. Bodies that backordered the area above-mentioned to namewinner communicable it are alone accustomed to bid in the auction. The bargain lasts for 3 days. Godaddy.com or any Agrarian West Domains Reseller – $18.95 aboriginal appear aboriginal served (only one being can abode a backorder on any one expiring domain, if or back the area expires and godaddy catches it, the backorder holder is awarded the domain.) It is consistently best to absolutely analysis an expiring area name. There is no abiding blaze way of alive if a area will accept traffic, or how abundant a area is worth. But by blockage to see how abounding sites articulation to a area (linkpop), how abounding bodies searched for the area in the antecedent ages (overture with extension), how abounding bodies searched for the agreement that accomplish up the area in the antecedent ages (overture after the extension), what the google pr is (google folio rank), and what the area was use for in the accomplished (wayback archive), you can get a asperous abstraction of how abundant cartage you should expect.

Once you accept absolutely researched a domain, you should again adjudge if the area is account backordering at basin or snapname for $60, at enom or namewinner for $30, at godaddy or a agrarian west reseller for $18.95, or enom for $10. Bethink to awning all your bases if an expiring area is account at atomic $60 to you, again backorder at all of the aloft services. If it is alone account $30, again backorder at any account that is $30 or cheaper (but bethink addition abroad may backorder it at the $60 service, and again you accept no adventitious at accepting the asleep domain, if you don’t accept a backorder placed at that service.)

There are a number of ways the “game” is played. The first is entirely legal, if more than a little questionable. In this version, the name of a city or geographic area is grabbed by a domain squatter and pointed to… “sites that you wouldn’t want your children visiting.”

(We chose that term to avoid getting caught in a lot of spam filters for the use of the word “p-o-rn.”)

A prominent notice is placed on the sites, offering them for sale at prices that range from $2500 to as much as $500,000!

The idea here is that city officials will feel that enough damage is being done to the reputations of their towns that they’ll pay to keep them from being associated with that type of material.

It’s obviously safe to say that it’s not appropriate to pop those kinds of images into people’s faces while they’re looking for info on a completely different topic.

That’s where the pressure on the cities comes from, and why this is such a disgusting scheme.

In essence, the domain squatter says: “Pay us, or continue to watch as your city’s reputation suffers.”

Many would call this blackmail…

~~~
The second variation on the theme is not always legal. When someone takes a trademarked name (or variation of the spelling of one) or a famous person’s name, and does the same thing.
For trademarks or close variations, there’s a specific procedure for addressing the problem. (See the resource section at the end of this issue.)
For the names of famous people, there MAY be a remedy. But, it can be tricky — and expensive.
For example, if someone named John Jones registered http://WalterCronkite.com and pointed it to one of “those” sites, Walter Cronkite could probably force the domain away from him.
However, if someone named Steve Cronkite registered http://Cronkite.com and did the same thing, Walter Cronkite would have no recourse. It would be very hard to demonstrate that Steve registered the domain in bad faith. And if Steve’s son’s name is Walter, the same is true for http://WalterCronkite.com.
If you feel that your name is likely to be typed into a browser when people are looking for information on you, you should consider getting both the .com and .net versions of the domain if they’re available.
It will cost you a few bucks to prevent the problem. Fixing it, assuming you win, will cost you hundreds — if not thousands — of dollars.
And there’s no guarantee you’ll win.
~~~

A third version is a bit more benign. It’s common among members of affiliate programs.

In this version names very close to, or even including, the trademark are registered. The sites are created to drive traffic to the affiliates’ URL at the main site.

This may or may not be acceptable to the affiliate program owner. If it is, it’s a good technique for getting traffic. If not, it could get you into hot water. Check with the owner of the trademark before doing this.

Less benign is an alternative version of this technique where someone grabs domain names that are close to the trademark of a competitor and uses them to grab competitor type-in traffic. This is often done by finding out the most common misspellings of the real domain name or trademark.

Watch for people doing this with your domain.

~~~
Here’s the worst version of this — and it can hit anyone if they have enough traffic and don’t pay close attention to when their domain registrations expire.
In this situation, someone grabs expired domain names and points them to “those” kinds of sites. This is a “no lose” for the hijacker, as they will profit from the traffic even if the previous owner doesn’t pay the requested ransom for the domain.
The more traffic the URL gets, the greater the clickthrough value to the hijacker. This means more potential damage to the original owner — and a higher ransom to get it back.
In effect, your own popularity is your worst enemy in this case.
The solution to this one is simple — and very important: Don’t let your domain names expire!
Useful Resources:
If you find yourself a victim of domain hijacking, there is hope for correcting the problem.
For a more formal explanation of the legal aspects of this problem, visit
For specific information on the UDRP (Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy), the procedure for taking domain names that are being used in violation of a trademark, see
http://wipo2.wipo.int/process1/index.html
For information on taking action under the Anti-Cybersquatting Act (A US law that provides for damages in addition to the less severe penalties of the UDRP) see
http://www.domain-name.org/cybersquatact.htm
If you have a famous name or trademark, the best defense is to make sure that you register the main variations in both the .com and .net form. The .org is probably only necessary if you are heavily involved with charitable activities.
Protect yourself. Scammers come up with new schemes all the time…
Unfortunately, some innocent people have accepted this ridiculous offer.
Clearly, this is a complete rip-off. And we’ve received even more offers to register domain names for “just” $300!
OK. So what should it cost to register a domain name? The short answer is that it should cost you between $15 and $75 (plus a fee to InterNIC – see below). Anything more is a rip-off.
Here’s why: There are two types of fees to register a domain name:
A fee to InterNIC (Internet Network Information Center — the group in charge of assigning domain names) and
A fee to the company doing the domain name registration for you.
1. InterNIC is in charge of registering domain names. Until September of this year (1995), there was no charge from InterNIC to register domain names. Therefore, if you knew how to fill out the appropriate form and submit it to InterNIC, you could register a domain name for free.
Prior to the registration fees from InterNIC, some people registered huge numbers of domain names. For example, there were individuals who tried to register the names of as many major corporations as they could, so they could later sell these domain names to these companies (when the companies realized that “their” domain names were not available).
On September 14, 1995, InterNIC announced that the fee for all new domain name registrations would be $100, which would include two years of registration. So, all new domain name registrations now cost a minimum of $100, the fee to InterNIC. (Update: The fee for Web Addresses registered on or after April 1, 1998, is US$70.00. New registrations are in effect for a two-year period.)
The fee for annual renewals (for both new and existing domains) is $50. Therefore, all domain names that were registered prior to September 14, 1995 (when the $100 registration fee was initiated) will owe an annual renewal fee of $50 on the anniversary of their initial registration. (Update: All domain names re-registered on or after April 1, 1998, are assessed a US$35.00 re-registration fee.)
On the Web: For more information, the Web address for InterNIC Registration Services is http://rs.internic.net/rs-internic.html. (Update: Network Solutions now handles the registration services: http://www.networksolutions.com/ )
2. Many people hire their ISP (Internet Service Provider) or a consultant to register their domain names for them.
The process of registering a domain name almost always involves these five steps:
Selecting a domain name to register
Finding out if this domain name is currently available
Selecting an ISP who will host the domain
Filling out the appropriate form to request the domain name (done by you or the ISP)
Submitting this form to InterNIC (done by the ISP).
A Useful Tip: It is now possible to use the Web to find out whether or not the domain name you’d like to register is available using WhoIs. This is a LOT more convenient than alternative ways to find out whether or not a domain name is available. But remember, the name may be assigned to someone else between when your application is submitted and when it is reviewed by InterNIC.
On the Web: Look at example information along with the instructions that are included as part of the Domain Name Registration Agreement to request a new domain name. Filling out and submitting the form is not difficult (however, it does require knowing what you’re doing).
A reasonable fee to pay to have your ISP (or a consultant) fill out and submit this form for you is between $15 and $75. Our ISP charges us $30 and does an excellent job. Paying much more for this is unnecessary.
This means that you will pay a total of $115 to $175 (including the $100 to InterNIC) to register your domain name. (at the time of original publication)
Note: This scam is about consultants who charge $2000 for ONLY registering a domain name. If your ISP starts talking about fees of $2000, they are probably giving you more domain services than you need. (The service most of you will want from your ISP is sometimes called a “domain alias,” and can be implemented for the prices we mentioned.)
Tip: Don’t worry if you’re not the technical or administrative contact (Questions 4 and 5 on the form) — that’s OK. Just be sure that Questions 3a to 3f are filled in with your company’s name and info. That way, you’ll own the domain name, not your ISP or consultant.
IDN stands for Internationalized Domain Name, also known as multilingual domain names. It allows you the possibility to use more characters in domains names, besides letters and numbers. It uses characters available in other alphabets, like accents.
Example of IDN domains:
Chinese IDN ? ??.com which means cancer
If you go to ??.com you will see the domain is targeted towards cancer but in English.
Romanian IDN ? divor?.com you will see the domain is targeted towards divorce but in English.
Polish IDN ? pieni?dz.com you will see the domain is targeted towards money/currency but in English.
Greek IDN ? ??????.com you will see the domain is targeted bible/books but in English.
.cn with Chinese results: ??.cn you will see the domain is samples but in Chinese.
Al these are targeted through http://parkingsite.com and take 5 days to target once a keyword is given.
What browsers support IDN names today?
Only the latest version of Internet Explorer 7 and Firefox 2 support IDN Names directly entered into the browser.
IE6 and earlier versions will not support IDN?s.
What TLD?s or ccTLD?s support IDN?
First of all what I am saying with that question is what extensions can be registered like and IDN. Can I register??.com? ??.net? ??.org? ??.cn? ??.jp? and what others can I register.
Here is a list of the ones that I have registered:
.com
.net
.tv
.cc
.jp = Japan
.cn = China
.de = Germany
.gr = Greece
.tw = Taiwan
Do all Registrars support IDN registrations?
No, as of writing this Enom does and so does Domainsite. There are others that do but mot d not. Please check with your registrar BEFORE you register any or you will get stuck with a long name that has no value whosoever.
What IDN?s should you register?
You should use the same principles that you have learnt while registering English domain names. Go after the higher paying ppc terms first. Make sure if there are more than one way to say a word in any language that you get them all as you never know which ones will have the most traffic. I have registered quite a few dual meaning words and it?s never the one I think that has the most traffic.
??? ; ?? ; ??? all mean girl with slight variations in Chinese. In this case and such a major term, unless you speak the language, grab them all.
Google results for all of them:
??? – 1,870,000 results in Google
?? – 4,460,000 results in Google
??? – 2,840,000 results in Google
Most IDN?s with Google over 1 million will have some traffic unless you get ridiculous generic terms like ?the? which have no value whatsoever.
Also, as with English domains, dig a bit deeper. If loans is taken in the language you want go for things like home loans, car loans, boat loans and so on.
How to find and register IDN?s?
There are many ways to find and register IDN domain names. The best way is obviously if you speak the language but even then you must be careful. Just like in English some common words will not actually be used and a short form may be used. In English most people know the word automobile but rarely would use it. Most would use the word car.
This can be illustrated by the two overture scores:
1572 http://automobile.com
18016 http://car.com
Now this does not mean automobile is not a good IDN to register, it just means go after the one that is more likely to be typed in a browser.
Now if you don?t know anyone that speaks a language you are going after, your only choice is to use a good translator software, I suggest you use logos.it
When you enter a word it gives you results in multiple languages at one time and makes it really easy to get a keyword in multiple languages.
For example when you search for the word insurance you get:
English
insurance
Italian
assicurazione
Spanish
seguro ; aseguración
French
Valencian
Welsh
yswiriant
I have found that just like domains, the one I think will get the most traffic, surprisingly won?t, but the languages I have never heard of get some traffic.
Now let?s see how you go about registering IDN names:
Let?s go to logos.it and look up the Russian word for weasel as an example which is ?????, so now I go download the IDN Domain Conversion Tool then open it up and paste ????? into the space unde the heading IDN Domains and hit the ok button. You will get a code called a PUNY code which is: xn--80aa3ac5a , then take that and add a .com on it and you will end up with this http://xn--80aa3ac5a.com. Now check a whois or try to register http://xn--80aa3ac5a.com and see if you get it. To keep it organized and try to keep my domains in one place I register most of my IDN?s at Enom. There are other choices if you like. You can take the actual ID code and go to and type in the IDN and it will tell you if it?s available without doing the PUNY conversion but you should know how to do it anyways.
When I check now ?????.com is available.
In case you are wondering you cannot register ?????.ru yet as the Russian ccTLD does not support public IDN registrations yet.
If I find an IDN like ????? (xn--f9b5b1c6b7k) should I register .com or .cn or both?
This really depends on how strong the term is, if it?s a great term and you have the $, by all mans register them both. If you don?t my suggestion is get the .com. You will need to do some research here as every country operates differently. Some countries are big on their ccTLD?s while others go for the .com first and only if that?s taken will grab their ccTLD after that.
Personally, I have been registering the .com?s and if it?s a great term I get the ccTLD for that country if its available.
To learn more about IDN Names visit the Domain Name Forum where all the domain experts hang out and chat.
Are all the good IDN names taken?
Absolutely not, take your time and do some mining and you will find gold in them mountains.
Remember don?t expect miracles from IDN domains now, the miracles will come once most of the world has a browser that can support it.
Should you expect to make $ from your IDN?s now?
No, if you are lucky you will have a few that make something., I have registered thousands of these and at least half have traffic so that?s good enough for me to know the future will be great for these. Be patient they will be worth it in the long run.
Is there anything else I should know about IDN?s?
Yes, there is lots more, please take the time to learn about Domain Names and feel free to ask and post your questions as thre are many IDN experts there and they will usually answer you within a few minutes.
I hope this helps some of you get started in what should be an interesting area of domains
Choosing an appropriate domain name is the first step in the process of building online credibility. Remember to choose carefully because this online address may be where your business resides for the rest of its operating life. Now, some important tips to consider before choosing your domain name:
Choosing Your Domain Extension
A domain extension or top level domain is simply the suffix of your website address: (.com, .net, .org, .ca, etc.) Most Internet users are familiar with the ?.com? extension, and will generally use this extension by default when typing an address into their browser. Choosing a ?.com? extension should be your fist choice in case your potential customers forget that your address is ?www.mybusiness.NET?, and visit your competitor at ?www.mybusiness.COM? by mistake. Choosing the ?.com? extension gives your website the most credibility in the eyes of your customers.
If your business only caters to the local community, then it makes sense to get a country specific domain name, such as the ?.ca? extension. A country specific domain benefits you in two ways: both your customers and search engines such as Google will know that your website is registered to a Canadian and operates in Canada. Potential customers will feel more comfortable knowing that they are dealing with a Canadian company, and not a U.S. based business pretending to be a Canadian company. Also, search engines will give your website higher placement in the search results when a user is performing a Canadian specific search.
I personally recommend that my clients, if possible, register both the ?.com? AND ?.ca? extension. This way, your Canadian based website will benefit from using the ?.ca? extension, while at the same time ensuring that they reach your website if they accidentally type the ?.com? extension into their browser.
Using Your Business Name
The first choice for any domain name would be your business? name. This ensures that your customers will remember your website?s address. You can?t expect your potential customers to remember a phrase that just relates to your business.
Choosing Choice Keywords
Including specific keywords in your website?s address will help your rankings in popular search engines such as Google or Yahoo. It is best to choose a keyword that you think your potential customers will use to search for your business. A search engine optimization (SEO) professional such as Cost Effective Design can assist you in choosing your keyword(s). These type of domain names are used in instances where the client does not want to use the business name because it is either already registered by another company, or the company name is simply too long. Any company that is serious about generating traffic through search engines should acquire a domain name with a keyword in addition to your business name.
Don?t Confuse Your Customers
If possible, try not to use domain names that include: ?2? for ?To? or ?4? for ?For? or ?u? for ?You?. These may make your domain look ?cool? or ?hip?, but in reality they are not very practical. These domain names create a problem when directing your clients to your website verbally or over the phone. For example, if you owned http://www.UsedCars4U.com, every time you verbally directed someone to your website, you would have to specify that the URL uses the actual number 4, and letter U.
To Use, Or Not to Use Hyphens
Given that more and more businesses are registering domain names every day, getting the website address you want is becoming increasingly difficult. One or two word domain names are usually already registered, forcing new registrants to choose URLs containing three or four words. To some people, these URLs can look like a big mess of words. Using hyphens in between the words can make them visually more appealing. For example, ?www.used-cars-for-you.com, looks better than ?www.usedcarsforyou.com. The jury is still out on hyphenated domain names. The advantages are that they look better and search engines can easily distinguish the separate keywords for better search placements, but the disadvantages are that they are difficult to verbally communicate and type.
The best solution would be to register both the hyphenated, and the un-hyphenated version of the domain name to ensure that there is no confusion.
Domain Name Length
Even though you are allowed to use 67 characters for a domain name, the general rule of thumb is: shorter is better. Although, in some instances, the website address may be more memorable if it is more descriptive. For example a domain consisting of initials only, such as ?www.waa.com?, may not create a lasting impression compared to the domain name ?www.windsorautoassociation.com?. Therefore, it is best to choose a name that, while short, contains enough description for your customers to easily remember.
Buying an Existing Domain Name
Maybe the domain name you really want is already registered, either by a legitimate company, or by a ?domain squatter? who merely registered the name to sell for a profit at a later date. You can make an offer for these types of domains, although they make cost several hundred, or even thousands of dollars. There are advantages to purchasing an existing domain name. In addition to getting the domain you want, it may also rank highly in the search engines for certain keywords and / or generate topic specific traffic that you will benefit your business.
So, having a catchy and easily remembered domain name is important. The problem is, too many individuals you use domain names that are provided to them by their internet service provider. This is not the name you want your web site to have if you want to rise to the top and make the most money possible. You need to rent or buy your own domain name that has something to do with the product or service you are offering on your web page.
There are many ways in which you can register domains, or domain name, and most of the time it is relatively inexpensive and sometimes it is even free. You simply need to do a little research in order to find the domain name that works for your business and fits your budget as well.
Another thing to keep in mind when registering domains is what names are available, are the .com, .net, or .org, and if so how many of the same domains are available with different endings. For instance, if your company sells tires and you buy the domain name tiresrus.com then you will want to know if tiresrus.net and tiresrus.org are also available. If so, you will also want to buy them and have them linked to your web page in order to garner more traffic.
If you already have a web site set up with a domain name you are simply using, you do not have to start completely over when you buy a new domain name. All you have to do is buy the domain name or names that adequately reflect your web sties and then have your current web site hosted by a new server that will link it to the domain name you bought. This is not immediate and generally takes a few days, but it is worth it because now you will have a serious domain name which shows your web page is serious and not a joke. The few days you spend waiting for the transfer will be well worth your while.
So, go ahead and step up to the big leagues and get your domains today. Just go to the web and search domain names and you will be able to check and see if the names you want are available and if so you will be able to buy them. It really is as easy as that, so go ahead and try it out today. You will make up the small investment on the domain name in no time, probably even the first day!
